James L. Wing

Founder, Owner, Cameraman, Producer, Private Pilot
PADI Master Instructor
Married to Martina

Acknowledged as the authority on Manta Ray and human interaction, James has more hours underwater with Manta Rays than anyone in the world. He consults with the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa concerning the Manta Rays, lectures at the Resort, and is the producer for the in-house "Manta Channel 44". As a result of his work in broadcast and print media, tens of millions of people have been exposed to the Kona Manta Rays.

He resides on the Big Island of Hawaii with his wife Martina and explores the beautiful Underwater World of Hawaii several times a week. You usually meet James at the Southern Dive Site in Keauhou ("Manta Village").

Martina S. Wing

Owner, Camerawoman, Operations-Manager, Editor
PADI Assistant Instructor
Married to James

After earning her Engineering degree in Germany, Martina decided to travel. She visited Hawaii to study dolphin intelligence and never really left. Her first Manta Ray Dive was in February 1998 and it has changed her life entirely. As a matter of fact she is married to the videographer who filmed her first Manta Ray Encounter!

Martina has over 3000 night dives with the Manta Rays, but has also logged about 4000 day dives along the Kona Coast. You usually meet Martina on one of the boats that service the Northern Dive Site near the airport (“Manta Heaven”).

E. Ryan Leinbach

Assistant, Camerawoman, Editor
PADI Assistant Instructor

After finishing her internship with us in 2004, Ryan knew that the island lifestyle, the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it were her calling. She immediately became passionate about the Manta Rays and also fell in love with the Humpback Whales who "winter" around the islands from December to March.

Ryan, a photographer from North Carolina, has studied Underwater Photo- and Videography under James and Martina. You usually meet Ryan on daytime charters where we provide video services to Dolphin charter boats or on the Manta Ray Dive, when she fills in for James or Martina. She is an expert when it comes to identifying the different Manta Rays and is a tremendous help maintaining this website’s database.
